Our consultant Luiz Felipe Monteiro Seixas was featured in a BNamericas report to comment on the main bills currently before the National Congress that could impact the Brazilian electricity sector.
Luiz Felipe highlighted Bill 2987/2015, which proposes the expansion of the free energy market and structural changes to risk allocation, economic incentives and subsidies, and Bill 278/2026, which creates a special tax regime for data centres, with energy conditions, such as a requirement for 100% supply or self-generation from clean or renewable sources.
He also commented on Bill 414/2021, which is currently stalled in the Chamber of Deputies, proposing the “modernisation of the electricity sector” and mentioned other bills with significant sector-specific and thematic impact, such as Bill 3370, relating to the obligations of energy distributors, and Bill 1187/2026, which deals with the transparency of the CDE (energy development account).
