Roberto Coimbra earned his Bachelor’s Degree in of Law Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro – UERJ (1972), and a Postgraduate Degree in Business Law Faculdade Candido Mendes (1976). He completed the Program for Instructions of Lawyers at Harvard Law School (2000), and has specialized in Commercial Law and Civil Procedure, Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) (1981, 1983 and 1990).

He occupied the position of General Counsel for IBM Brasil, of Banco IBM S/A and Curator of the Fundação Previdenciária IBM (IBM Pension Fund Foundation) September 1996 to September 2005, and was responsible for all guidance on the legal matters of these companies in Brazil, interacting with the Legal Department of IBM Corporation, and working in the fields of corporate, banking, commercial, private pension, tax, administrative, labor, capital markets, competition, environmental law, and civil, labor law and tax litigation.

He was Legal Manager of the CAEMI group’s forestry and pulp and paper companies, especially Jari Celulose S/A and its subsidiaries, August 1993 to September 1996, handling corporate, capital markets, environmental, tax and commercial matters.

He worked as a lawyer for Citibank N.A. August 1977 to July 1993; having risen to the position of Joint General Counsel before he left, handling matters involving banking, corporate, commercial, tax and contract law.

He has also worked in civil and tax litigation, and in the renegotiation and reorganization of transactions liquidation is difficult, through settlements with the use of financial and capital markets mechanisms.

Roberto Coimbra has also held the following positions: Executive Officer of Citiprev Previdência Privada, a private pension entity of the Citibank Group in Brazil; Member of the Board of Directors of GD Empreendimentos Imobiliários S/A, a joint venture of the 2 Bozano Simonsen, Multishopping, Anglo American and Citibank groups, as Citibank’s representative 1988 to 1993; Member of the Audit Committee of CMM Caemi Mineração e Metalurgia, a publicly-held company of the CAEMI group, 1995 to 1998; Executive Officer and subsequently Vice President of Jari Overseas Ltd., a company headquartered in Bermuda, in charge of overseas transactions for Jari Celulose, in 1995 and 1996; Vice President of Jarí International Inc., an American company of Jari Celulose S/A, in charge of marketing its products in the American and Canadian markets; Member of the Audit Committee of Jari Celulose S/A, a publicly-held company the CAEMI-JARI group, March 1997 to March 2000; Member of the Council of Curators of the IBM Pension Fund Foundation September 1996 to September 2005; Member of the Board of Directors of Jari Celulose S/A March 1998 to April 2000.
