Luiz Felipe Monteiro Seixas talks about oil and natural gas block auctions

Our consultant, Luiz Felipe Monteiro Seixas, spoke to ESTADÃO about two auctions for oil and natural gas blocks being held today (7 October) by the federal government, against a backdrop of optimism fuelled by indications of oil discoveries in the Equatorial Margin and other factors that have emerged since the last auction in 2025.

The auctions are taking place at the headquarters of the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), in central Rio. The industry’s outlook for the event is positive, according to the report, which highlights that a number of interested companies are expected to take part.

For Luiz Felipe, who is also a lecturer at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), the participation of companies of different sizes and specialisations can broaden expertise and raise the quality of operators.

“Competitiveness is translating into technological development for the sector. These are competitors who have experience, demonstrate best practice and are fulfilling the obligations set out in the Petroleum Law. We are no longer in the situation we saw in 2010, with OGX, for example,” Luiz told the newspaper, referring to Eike Batista’s oil company, which went bankrupt after failing to produce the expected oil.
